Horizon Forbidden West has done very well for itself in its opening weekend. If the UK physical charts are anything to go by — and they are, otherwise, why bother reporting on it — people have been purchasing Guerrilla's sequel in droves, putting it firmly in the number one slot. We're not all that surprised, given PlayStation's brilliant ad campaign for the game. An interesting thing to note is that the vast majority of sales have gone to the PS5 version, despite the PS4 version — with a free upgrade to PS5 — being a tenner cheaper.
Anyway, Forbidden West's arrival has bumped everything else down a peg or two. Dying Light 2 is down a place, now in third, while FIFA 22 moves from number three to number five. Call of Duty: Vanguard has actually moved up a few spots, charging from 10th to seventh. Interestingly, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales almost climbs back into the top 10, moving all the way from 27th to 12th.
Here's the latest top 10 in full:
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 19th February, 2022
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus
- Dying Light 2
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- FIFA 22
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Minecraft (Switch)
- Mario Party Superstars
- Just Dance 2022

Quelle surprise.
I'm about 15 hours in and loving it. It does virtually everything better than the first game in terms of gameplay. There have been some genuine surprises too. My only 2 minor complaints so far are.
1) Too many weapons and upgrades. I already have over 15 weapons, each has several upgrade tiers to grind materials for. But I slightly wonder why I bother as a couple of hours later that weapon is superseded by another. Why do we need 10+ different bows this early in the game? It makes grinding to get the upgrades seem less worthwhile.
2) The hero lighting looks weird at times and doesn’t fit with the rest of the scene. It’s like Aloy’s always got several key light on her at all times making her glow. There was a scene with 3 characters Aloy, Varl and Zo and the first two had these hero lights on them while the third did not. A) it looked weird and unbalanced B) I thought the one without hero lighting looked better and more natural without it. Weird artistic choice imho.
Will elden ring knock it off next week though ? Overall probably a good bit more horizon players I think
@PenguinL 11th
@Uromastryx it's multiplat though, so I'd fully expect it to take the number 1 spot next week
@themightyant
9 times out of 10 the different bows fire different ammo, but general rule I go by is never upgrade green quality maybe blue if it has nice advantages
Actually just take acid/lightning warrior bow plough all your points into melee, zap zap charge R2--R1 win win
But yes way too many weapons so early especially if your taking your time and doing all side quests and visiting all vendors
Was always going to be the case but it really is a great game, the machines look so good!
@themightyant completely agree here on the weapon front, it is quite overwhelming, it creates a game in itself of should I upgrade or not!?!? I have found the first bow to be the best yet (only about 10 - 15 hours in) it has 60 tear and coupled with concentration seems to be holding up really well so far.
@Uromastryx Probably will.
While I think Horizon might have stronger overall sales, Elden Ring is still huge, multiplatform and initial sales are usually the highest point, so it seems likely that Elden Ring will sell more in its 1st week vs Horizon in its 2nd.
Great to see! This game is a fantastic second iteration of an already stellar game.
of course this physical sales chart is relevant
99% of switch purchase are physical copies
thats why u will always see those nintendo games every week
@Mostik "I have found the first bow to be the best yet
Completely agree, use it 90% of the time. It's making me wonder why i'm spending time upgrading these weapons I hardly use other than an occasional fire/frost/electric canister explosion that can be done with an un-upgraded weapon. Got my 2nd tier fire bow just after I had fully upgraded and barely used the first. It's a small complaint but still doesn't feel quite right.
The game will have long legs as more stock becomes available..or so i hope..
It's shocking for an open world, HFW loads like an ND game on PS4. After the initial long load when you first launch the game, subsequent reloading from the pause menu is like 5secs tops. Though I might prefer long load times if it'd reduce pop-ins.
@themightyant I think with the weapons they didn't want to make things easy, kinda like RDR2, where you need small arrows for birds, varmint rifle for small animals, repeaters for coyotes, rifles for large animals. I even think HFW makes things too easy, like sending things to your stash.
"Interestingly, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales almost climbs back into the top 10, moving all the way from 27th to 12th."
How is 12th back into the top 10? Am I being stupid here? 😅
@AhabSpampurse Yep! you're ignoring the word 'almost'
We've all been there
@themightyant I’m enjoying it too but I’m gutted they removed the ability to whistle/lure machines. It’s like AC Unity all over again 😫
Other than that, it’s brilliant.
@themightyant thanks, mate. It's early and I'm tired. Three more espresso enemas and I'll be fighting fit 💪
@steizgr8
Not necessarily. It’s mainly PlayStation gamers who buy physical retail these days and it’s understandable because of DRM.
Edit
I mean ER might still be top even considering only PS gamers but nothing is for granted.
Sony's marketing did the trick. It's all over bus stops here in Aberdeen. Plus an army of dedicated fans of the first game. Well deserved from what I've played so far!
This game is awesome to play but sometimes random stuttering, hope they will fix soon, i stop now to wait and play Persona 5 royal !
@MightyDemon82 when I went to see the Uncharted movie most of the ads before the movie were for Sony/PlayStation and there was a trailer for HFW. Heard a few people around me saying they couldn’t wait to play it.
I think I'm the only person in the world that isn't bothered about Eldern Ring. 😔
@Bagwag82 I’m not bothered either but I feel like I should be 🤪
@BritneyfR_ee I hadn't realised that. Though it was easy to abuse, like in AC, just stay in cover and lure enemies over despite the pile of corpses building up. lol.
Still got stones to throw of course.
@Bagwag82 I’m probably the only PS5 owner who isn’t bothered about Horizon Forbidden West. I’m actually much more excited for Elden Ring.
@themightyant you can whistle to call your mount (when you have one). I wonder if that’s why they chose to remove the whistle/lure ability?
Imagine my disappointment when I thought I got the whilst back and a huge Charger came bounding towards me, giving away my position and causing all hell to break loose 😫
Yeah, there's a lot of not-so-different bows that is quite unnecessary but I always upgrade anything new I get because hunting is pretty good so it's a pleasure to get more materials when needed. I do miss those tearblast arrows from the first game, though.
@themightyant i upgraded all my green weapons then got to the next settlement in the wilds 10 minutes later and got all blue weapons 😂😂. Will be saving the upgrades for later from now on.
@ApostateMage "I do miss those tearblast arrows from the first game, though"
Loved that bow. Just the noise of it charging then exploding in a mess of metal components.
By god, it deserves where it's at! It's definitely ruining my future as I can't stop playing. Haven't done anything else since release. Glad to see Guerrilla Games are getting the love and support they deserve.
I’m assuming there will be loads of issues with redundant crafting pieces and useless gear. It does annoy me when they put these sort of RPG/crafting elements into games and nothing comes of it. To be fair I can’t think of a single game that gets it right - I’m playing Pokémon right now and the amount of crap you pick up, you have like 10 items that all appear to do the same thing.
Maybe it becomes more important on harder difficulties.
And they removed the tearblast dubstep arrows?!
@Kidfunkadelic83 Exactly my experience! Had really grinded for the 10% drop rate for one of the sparkers and then had a better bow 10 mins later!!! Will only upgrade those i'm really using for now until I hit a wall.
Plus 1 on the Tearblast arrows. Fingers crossed they are a late game and NG+ entry.
Deserves it. A fantastic game and a must play. The world is just stunning, a Digital Art masterpiece.
Sony has some pretty talented Artists working at their studios.
@themightyant add me if you like. Its nice to be able to see pleasant people on my friends list to talk to. User name is in my bio buddy 👍
Well the good news is that HFW gets the No 1 slot - no surprise really. The bad news however is that cos most people bought it on PS5 - and didn’t opt for the cheaper PS4 upgrade path - they’ve given the green light to Sony to keep charging £70 for future AAA titles.
@AhabSpampurse Espresso enemas? 😂😂😂. Why not just inject them straight into the eyeball like everybody else 😂
@Kidfunkadelic83 Thanks for the offer but i'm an anti-social old sod and never chat to anyone while playing, just not my cup of tea. Always have my PS profile set to "Always Offline" to avoid people tapping me up! But I'll add you anyway in case that ever changes!
@themightyant Loving the game too, but I agree about the weapons - it's just too much! I would have preferred they gave you access to a small amount, but provided a really deep upgrade path for each weapon, maybe something akin to how AC Valhalla handled it's weapon upgrades.
My only other slight gripe is the climbing mechanics. I can see what they were going for, but I'm not crazy about the yellow highlighted route stuff to scale things.
Otherwise, I'm very much enjoying my time with this game! Nice work Guerilla.
@Nightcrawler71 they're going to stick with £70 regardless, stop with the shaming.
😛
I want my white label and I'm prepared to pay more to get it.
😂
@Col_McCafferty Exactly, and we also want Sony to keep delivering the highest quality production values in their games ta very much.
@themightyant Anti social old sod? I can relate 😂
@themightyant I think I read somewhere that performance mode on ps5 seems to alleviate the weird aura around Aloy. I could tell a big difference when jumping from resolution to performance
Im excited to play this..
.. in a few months time. Just gotta avoid spoilers, etc. Backlog is huge, pointless to add to it. Especially if I can get it cheaper, later.
@BritneyfR_ee I believe they removed the lure call because it made ROCKS useless. They were basically doing the same thing and I'm guessing the lure call just made it too easy. I find myself using rocks a lot in this game.
@TheArt yeah I’m using rocks more now but it’s cumbersome. I would switch back to whistling in a heartbeat if it was an option. I mean, in real life would you carry round a bunch of rocks (in addition to your equipment) or would you just whistle? They should have just got rid of rocks tbh.
@BritneyfR_ee I get you but I think it's intentional, just to make things challenging, they've nerfed a lot of stuff. Plus I think devs have been abusing the whistle to lure a bit too much, it's in almost every game, it's becoming corny somewhat lol.
Bought the PS5 version physical myself. In terms sales, this will probably open lower world wide than the first game due to the PS5 shortage and earlier timeline. Most likely won't beat Zero Dawn's first year sales neither. Like Miles Morales though, it will be PS5 dependent in terms sales. Meaning the sales will depend on PS5 stock. The consumer has basically told Sony they should drop PS4 support when it comes to AAA 1st party games if they've had projects they're just beginning. That 120 million PS4s doesn't mean much here anything anymore.
Kinda impressed Pokemon is still top 2 after so long.
The only bad thing is because most of those Horizon sales were PS5 Sony UK will continue to rip off its users with the direct $70-£70 conversion.
I feel this is a missed opportunity to show them we demand a fair exchange all because some users wanted that shiny white box.
@HeeHo it's just $10 dude.
@BritneyfR_ee "when I went to see the Uncharted movie most of the ads before the movie were for Sony/PlayStation and there was a trailer for HFW"
what we're the other sony/ps ads before the movie?
@middyone If $70 was equal to £70 yes, but its not.
We are paying the equivelent to almost $100 per game, thats a $30 difference for the same thing.
How would you feel if games jumped from $60 to $100 for you but the UK still payed $60?
@HeeHo oh sorry that happened to you guys in the uk. I didn't know. any reason why you think that happened to ya'll and not everybody or happened at all?
